Der Bau der Brunsttobelbrücke

"The existing Brunsttobel Bridge over the Weißach at km 10.58 in the course of the L 4, Dorener Street, was built in 1939, partly rebuilt after the considerable war damages from 1945 and again opened to traffic in 1949. In 1979, further bridge construction adjustments were made and the load-bearing capacity of the bridge was improved. In the last of the periodic bridge inspections, a state of conservation was determined which makes a renewal of the bridge urgently necessary.

Due to the new construction, next to the old bridge structure, the construction work could be carried out under traffic open keeping, furthermore the traffic safety was substantially increased by an improved line management of the ramp connections.
The new Brunsttobel Bridge was designed by the planning office Schimetta Consult as a three-span prestressed concrete structure. The span widths are 38 m, 51 m and 38 m,
resulting in a total span of 127 m.
The supporting structure cross-section is provided as slab beams with a variable height of 2 m in the middle of the field and 3.5 m at the piers with a total width of 10.5 m. The slab beams are designed for a total width of 10.5 m. The slab beams are designed for a total width of 2 m.

Construction commenced on 23 September 2013 with the erection of the construction site and clearing work. On 9 October 2013, the foundation work for the Krumbach pier was started. Due to the ambitious construction schedule, work was also carried out during the winter months so that the foundation of the piers could be completed by the end of February 2014.

The piers and abutments could already be completed at the end of May 2014, so that the next major construction phase, the erection of the falsework, could be tackled. The assembly of the falsework was completed at the beginning of July, so that the erection of the supporting structure on the Doren side of the boundary field could then begin.
The supporting structure was erected in several sections. The first section of the supporting structure was concreted on 27.08.2014. On 24.09.2014 the second section and on 14.04.2014 the third section of the supporting structure, the middle section, were concreted. Section 4a was concreted on 07.11.2014 and section 4b on 19.11.2014. The gaps in the piers were closed with the last concreting sections. Altogether, approx. 3500 m2 were formed in the supporting structure alone, a thousand cubic metres of concrete and 150 tonnes of steel were used.
In December 2014, around one year after the start of construction, work on the bridge and the ramp section structures was largely completed.

The road construction work still outstanding on the ramp sections was started after the winter break in March 2015.
In the spring of 2015, various pipeline installations and drainage works were carried out on the ramp section on the side of Krumbach. After completion of the drainage, the road superstructure could be applied.
In June 2015, the bituminous base course was laid on the bridge and in the area of the ramps on the lane in the direction of Doren, so that traffic could already be routed over the new bridge for the first time in mid-June 2015.
For quality reasons, the wearing course was paved seamlessly under two night-time total barriers at the beginning of July 2015.
After the road equipment had been installed, the Vorderwälder Strasse was returned to traffic.

Subsequently, at the end of August 2015, the last construction phase, the removal of the old bridge, was tackled.
After the removal of the bridge, the last renaturation work could be carried out in October.

The goals set by the state, such as the production of the construction work in the required quality and on-time completion, resulted in an ambitious construction schedule. The difficult circumstances, such as the unfavourable properties of the subsoil and the cramped construction site posed additional challenges for the construction work. These challenges were met by all those involved with professional work preparation and a high level of commitment.

Once again, it was thanks to a team of specialists that the planned schedule could not only be adhered to, but even just undercut. The quality and on-schedule completion was only possible because all those involved in the project worked together to achieve the common goal.

The successful completion of the construction work is due to all of them.
