A true double net take a stop of light only if it is perpendicular to the face of the lamp. If you have the net at an angle to the lamp it will “Take” more light. You can turn a single into a double or even a thin solid by having the light pass through the net at an angle. It very easy to show by putting a net in front of a light and pivot it from the front edge and watch how thick the net can get.
