Sailing to Philadelphia (Cover)
An acoustic version of Mark Knopfler's song based on the recording he did with James Taylor. I use the capo on first fret simply to raise the key up to suit my vocal range.
Since I first heard it, this song has worked for me on so many levels - for the story telling, the singing of Mark and James and the guitar playing which Mark always excels at. It is also a special song for me as I have sung this song with my daughter since she was 14. She loved playing her flute along with me and taking the role of Dixon in the vocals.
The picking is my attempt to reproduce the light percussion in the original version.
The guitar is one I made in 1995. I call this a Stratus 14/12, a design which was developed in collaboration with Steve Tilston (Youtube him).
