Hull Oakes Lumber Co Removing The Mill's Historic Log Carriage.
On Friday, February 28, 2020, I got a front row seat to witness and document the end of an era at Hull Oakes Lumber Company here in Dawson, Oregon.
Yes, it is the end of an era but it is also the beginning of a new one. I for one am very excited for the beginning of the new era with the arrival next week of the new custom built log carriage. Todd and Nathan Nystrom began the process of upgrading their mill's log carriage to a brand new custom built state of the art 21st century log carriage. Todd, told me he thought this carriage was put in the mill sometime in the early 1960's by his Grandfather Ralph Hull and that it was an old used piece of equipment then. He figures it is about 65-70'ish years old. To make this upgrade, the old carriage was removed and hauled away by the mill's crew including the legendary Danny Williams who did a great job loading the old carriage with the Cat log loader.
Danny loaded the carriage onto the Co's 1958 Peerless 10 foot wide bunk mount lowboy. He pulled the lowboy with the Co's green 2004 Kenworth T-800 that doubles as the lead logging truck and is a quick change to a fifth wheel to pull the Co's Trail King lowboy to move all the Co's logging equipment. Danny does a good job keeping up with everything and he has been a very good and fair mentor tome over my four decades. Once he got the carriage loaded Danny moved it out of the way and up to the west end of the yard.
I shot this entire video using the video function on my Mac iPhone XR and edited and uploaded using iMovie on my new desktop computer. As always please enjoy, like my videos and keep checking back for more updates. Keep on Trucking.
All The Best,
Cody.
