American-Built Cars Now Need a Warning Label in Japan

Toyota and Nissan have started selling American-built vehicles in Japan, and they are warning customers before they buy. The US-built Toyota Tundra, Toyota Highlander, and Nissan Murano now come with official disclaimers in Japan.
Toyota tells buyers the paint may show thin spots, color variation, polishing marks, dents, and even blistering. Nissan warns of dirt in the paint and panels that may not line up perfectly. On top of that, the infotainment screens are English only, and the Murano's radio does not work in Japan.
To be fair, the automakers say none of this affects how the cars drive. But that is sort of the point. Japanese fit-and-finish standards are so high that a normal American-built Toyota needs a warning label to be sold there. We keep hearing that American build quality has caught up. Apparently not quite.
