Fred Allen's Sketchbook (ARMSTRONG CIRCLE THEATER, November 9, 1954)
Fred Allen narrates and appears in three separate sketches: THE HOUR OF LETDOWN, THE LIFE OF MR. BIDWELL, and TWENTY HORSES, in an episode of the Armstrong Circle Theater.
For some reason, this show has been incorrectly described as a "short-lived series" when it was actually just a single episode of a long-running anthology program. Perhaps this show was intended as a pilot for a series, but if such a series was ever made there's no verifiable record of it I can find. I think it's just a mistake-- it seems extraordinarily unlikely to me that Fred would have had any interest in appearing on a second regular series when he was already on WML and accepted that job largely because it left him free to write his books. The demands of a weekly series of this sort would have taken full precedence over his writing. I don't buy it.
Kenny Delmar, longtime cast member of Fred's radio show, appears in this episode. Delmar was most famous for creating the voice of Senator Claghorn upon which the Looney Tunes character Foghorn Leghorn was based.
