Why Old School Fans ACCEPT Luka Doncic

In this video we take a look why Old School NBA Fans love Luka Doncic and why he is so great.
There are not many players that seemed to be blessed with the clutch gene.
But Luka Doncic definately has it. When this guy was 16 and still playing in europe he did not shy away from taking the last shot
when the game was on the line. And now while he is playing in the nba, even at a young age, he wants the ball when it matters.
But its not only his confidence, he is also making those shots.
And this is a quality that we old school fans just love. Guys like MJ, Reggie, Kobe or Larry Bird. Some of the greatest players ever
always took the responsibility when its crunch time. And now Luka is slowly but surely trying to follow in their footsteps.
A willing passer.
Now this one right here is something that matters a lot to me.
When I was a kid I also played ball, and I was a point guard.
The first thing I learned was as a point guard you gotta make your teammates better, and you have to find them when they are open.
Guys like Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas etc all where player that could score, but you could see in their style of play, that they loved to pass the ball.
In todays nba you have many guys that average a lot of assits, but it seems like passing is more of a obligation. For example james harden.
This guy got many assits, but he passes to the open man because he cant score in that particular play. And this is totally different with luka doncic,
he is a willingly passer, and you can see that he loves to find the open teammate. this is something us 80s/90s guys grew up with, and that is something that we enjoy.

Basketball IQ.
Now this is a very interesting one, because it seems to be a category that often gets over looked.
Basketball IQ is so important on a high level, that you can easily say that the best players ever also had the highest basketball iq.
larry bird, jordan, stockton, magic, etc. But in this case, I want chauncey billups to explain.

Fundamentals and footwork
Oh yes, a category that is beloved by old school Fans. But also a category that is so important no matter on what level you play basketball.
Luka Doncic learned to play in europe, and its a known fact that european player usually come to the nba with great fundamentals.
And Luka is no exeption. He is not the most athletic player but he really makes up for it with his fundamentals. Especially his footwork is very
good. If you take a closer look at what he is able to do because of his footwork you will see that it is super clean and precise.

Old School Ballfakes.
As a fan of 80s and 90s NBA I can say I loved ball fakes. No matter if it was magic, bird or mj, they always fooled their opponents with beautiful ballfakes.
and this is kind of a lost art. Hardly any players use the ballfake in todays NBA. And here Luka is an exeption.
When he entered the NBA he showed us some of the greates fakes we have ever seen. And he shows how effective they are.
Making his opponets look pretty stupid. So in this regards luka is bringing back some old school flair.

The Stepback.
Many of the younger folks believe that james harden invinted the step back, because he uses the step back pretty well.
But this is far away from the truth. Larry bird was using the step back already back in the 80s. And paul pierce in the 90s and 2000s.
Anyway. There is no denying that luka stepback reminds us old school heads a lot of larry bird. And he come into the nba using the step back
as his go to move.
Something that we were used to back in the days.
Olajuwon had the dream shake, MJ his fade away, kareem his sky hook, and luka has his step back.
