In this video Heimler takes you through Unit 6 Topic 13 of the AP U.S. History curriculum which is set in period 6 (1865-1898).
Politics in the Gilded Age were lethargic and corrupt. Neither the Republicans nor the Democrats pushed a strong legislative agenda. That is until the Populist Party showed up and woke them from their slumber.
On the city level, politics was dominated by political machines, the most notorious of which was Tammany Hall in New York led by the infamous Boss Tweed. Political machines corrupted the political process, to be sure, but they also provided benefits to immigrants stuck in low-wage jobs.
If you have any questions, leave them below and Heimler shall answer forthwithly.
This video is aligned with the AP U.S. History Curriculum and Exam Description for Unit 6 Topic 13, and all the key concepts thereunto appertaining.
