North American River Otter #19-320 - Live Prey Enrichment

On February 7, 2019 an adult male North American river otter was admitted to the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) after it was believed to have been struck by a vehicle. The otter suffered a fractured femur and has undergone two surgeries to repair the bone.

As part of his recovery, it is vital that he strengthens the injured leg so that he is agile enough to survive in the wild. Staff at the #CROWClinic have caught live fish for the otter to help him get the proper physical exercise to strengthen his injured leg while also maintaining his hunting instincts and practicing his agility underwater. #GoPro cameras were set up in the enclosure to capture the action without interfering with his natural behavior.
