Mera Peak 2014 - The Summit Bid

In October 2014 we headed to Nepal to attempt Mera Peak, 6,462m. On 14th October, the day prior to heading to Mera Base Camp (Khare) we were hit by the storm that arose from Cyclone Hudhud, which tragically led to the loss of 43 lives in the Annapurna region. We were lucky, in that everyone in the Mera region was safe, however over a metre of snow was dumped on Mera Peak, making progress past 6,000m impossible. That is, until 18th October when accompanied by my two guides, I reached a ridge at 6,300m before having to turn back. On the video I mistakenly call this ridge Mera South Summit, which in fact is quite a deal lower. 14.5 hours of climbing (including 8 hours to gain 500 vertical metres), a fall, a torn meniscus, and a helicopter evacuation made for an eventful summit bid!
