We’re used to seeing land-roaming animals and we’re used to seeing birds flying in the sky. But there’s an entire world of creatures living and thriving below sea level. So far, we know about almost 230,000 sea species and are still sure that there are a lot more out there. Every year, new discoveries add to our amusement. These marine animals have a distinctive color and their body structure makes them look like something from a cartoon or a fantasy movie.

For example, dancing shrimps raise their bottom above their head and do a little dance when agitated. Hairy octopus looks like it’s forgotten to comb its hair in the morning but it’s actually its skin that’s sticking in every direction. Margined sea lizard isn’t an actual lizard — it’s a kind of sea slug that dwells close to the water surface. It swims upside down and somersaults to get food. We compiled a selection of the weirdest sea creatures that are sure to mesmerize you with their appearance.
