St. Joseph's Day Celebrated by Sicilians and Italians in New Orleans

Charles Marsala of AWE News interviews Peter Gilberti, President of the Italian American St Joseph's Society, Lena Prima and John Viola on the annual Pasta Fest, Altars, and the St Joseph's Day Parade presented by the Italian American St Joseph's Society.

The parade is one of the premier Italian-American events held post-Mardi Gras in the historic New Orleans French Quarter. The parade consists of beautifully decorated floats adorned by the Queen and more than sixty exquisitely dressed Maids, hundreds of tuxedo-ed Italian-Americans handing out green, white and red beads, silk flowers and blessed fava beans. Music is provided by bands and dance teams with sound trucks playing Louis Prima, Dean Martin and Sinatra music. Enjoy an evening of parades and dancing in the streets. Come sing, dance and even be kissed by an Italian!

The Italian American St Joseph's Society is a non-profit offering scholarships and in the spirit of St. Joseph's Day does a pasta luncheon at St. Jude's Community Center.
