New Angle News 1986 Episode 3 - Before "The Onion" there was New Angle News from Erie, PA
This humorous journey into the dry side of the news in 1986 features Matt Frazzini as Max Wellhouse the discombobulated anchor guy, Don Weber as the ferocious sports announcer, and Christine Lorraine as ditzy weather woman Rayna River. The first "news" story includes reporting by Joe Frazzini who is on location at the Grand Canyon.
Produced in the studios of the now defunct Erie Cablevision, New Angle News released six episodes between 1985 and 1991 when the studio was closed forever. In the sixth and final episode, the cast intentionally destroys the set to close the show.
This nostalgic video also features Roger Prehoda, Joe Frazzini, Ed Johnasen, Joseph Gullo III, Bill Quashnock, Jim Welle, Mary Ann White, Robert White, and a brief cameo appearance by my cousin Vinny White.
Watch closely when Don Weber interviews Fetch Fletcher in a sports segment, and you'll notice that he nearly chokes on a piece of watermelon at the beginning of the bit, which he quickly washes down with beer and corn curls.
Also, as a point of local interest, the segment that supposedly shows the house where Madonna was born is a stunning Victorian landmark which ended up landlocked and has since been demolished. It was located between East 5th and 6th Streets near Ash Street in Erie, PA.
Editing and formatting by Vacationing Parakeet Productions (VPP) c. 2014. This show contains all original material, including music titled "Slow re-Percussion" from the Christine Lorraine Collection c. 2012 which includes musical pieces composed specifically for VPP videos.
