Jay Leno’s “Baby Duesenberg” 1936 Cord 812 | 1914 Premier | Indiana-Built Luxury Classics
We’re back at Jay Leno’s shop to check out a couple of early 20th Century American luxury cars, produced in the Hoosier State - not Detroit. The 812 Cord was revolutionary when it debuted in 1936 and roused some serious excitement in the automotive world. This “Baby Duesenberg” had numerous futuristic features for the time and looked like no other American cars. It never really caught on, though, so less than 200 were ever produced. With its powerful Lycoming Flathead V8 engine and European styling, this art deco beauty is rarer than a Southern California rainstorm. We’re dodging raindrops as we take the Cord 812 for cruise through the streets of Los Angeles!
Then Jay introduces us to another rare Indiana-built automobile. The 1914 Premier is one that many have never even heard of, including Dennis! This classic motor carriage was huge and robust like a truck. With a big chassis, large T-Head engine, and beefy transmission, Jay’s Premier had the room and power for the entire family to ride in style.
We always have a great time hanging out with Jay Leno, and this trip was another educational experience. If you thought Detroit produced some of America’s nicest cars, just wait until you see this episode of My Classic Car.
