Celebrities with STRANGE Medical Abnormalities

Every 4.5 minutes, a baby is born with a birth defect in the United States, so you can only imagine the figures worldwide. The most common are congenital heart defects, cleft lip and cleft palate, and spina bifida. Many of our well-loved celebrities were born with a congenital anomaly, and we’ll have a look at some of them today.

11 - Kesha
The Timber singer has confirmed that when she was born, she had a small tail. In her words, "It was a tiny tail, about a quarter of an inch, then they chopped it off and stole my tail." It’s normal for a small tail to be attached to a human embryo during the first 5 weeks of development and it usually disappears around week 8. Sometimes though, like in Kesha’s case, it doesn’t, and the baby is born with a small tail. Often these tails are linked to spina bifida, which is a dangerous condition, where the canals of the spinal cord don't entirely close before birth. And then the luckier cases where it’s easy to remove with no side-effects.

10 - Stephen Colbert
Some might feel it just adds to his already fun and quirky personality, but Stephen Colbert has a very unusual looking right ear. He had surgery on his right ear when he was very young and in order to get access to the eardrums, doctors had to cut away part of his ear. He is also deaf in his right ear.

9 - Jennifer Garner
The name is brachymetatarsia, but it’s ok to just say that Jennifer Garner has a very crooked pinky toe. It means that one of the bones in the foot is too short, causing the toe to overlap. It doesn’t just affect the pinky toe, but in her case, that’s where it’s evident. It’s usually hereditary, and more often seen in women as opposed to men. It can be painful, can affect walking and finding proper shoes is a mission.

8 - Damon Wayans
Damon was born with a clubbed foot and as a child wore special shoes and leg braces to help with his condition. 1 in 1,000 children are born with clubbed feet in America and it can happen in one or both feet. Clubfeet is when a foot is twisted or bent at a funny angle or could point in the wrong direction or be crooked. Clubfoot occurs when the tendons and muscles in and around the foot are shorter than they should be. Wayans had corrective surgery as a child to fix his club foot as his mom was concerned that he would be teased as he grew older. When interviewed by Fox, Wayans said he got a lot of love from his mother because of his clubbed foot, especially being the middle child of a family with 4 children!

7 - Vanessa Paradis
Some will tell you that it’s her gap teeth that allured Johnny Depp to her in the first place, but I’m sure it was more than just her teeth. She has a very large gap between her two front teeth, and as she says, 'Why would I fix my teeth? I can spit water through them.'

6 - Sylvester Stallone
Have you also felt like Stallone slurs his words sometimes, making it rather challenging to understand what he is saying? That’s because doctors did damage to some of his nerves in his neck during childbirth when they brought him into the world using forceps.

5 - Gemma Arterton
Ranked #67 on The Most Beautiful Women in Hollywood, Arterton is well-known for her breakthrough role in James Bond film Quantum of Solace where she played Bond Girl Strawberry Fields and not so well-known for the fact that she was born with 6 fingers on each hand. She had her fingers tied together, causing them to fall off by themselves and still has the stumps on the side of her hands.

4 - Drew Carey
From fingers to toes, Carey was born with an additional toe. This American actor and comedian confirmed this in his autobiography, and whether he had it removed or not is something we’re not sure of but are happy to leave it at that.
3 - DJ Paul
This famous Tennessee rapper has one arm that is quite a bit smaller than the other. The Three 6 Mafia member has had this since he was born, which is why you often see him wearing an arm brace. Not much information is known about what happened or why, but it doesn’t seem to noticeably affect him.
