People have been doing water fasting & other types of fasting but some of them do it without a clear understanding. We have been receiving questions about it to clear the confusion.
Mostly, people practice fasting without the basic understanding and often hurt their health. Fasting is good for your health if it is done the right way. I have already talked about intermittent fasting and many of you now have asked me about water fasting. So let’s talk about it.
If you drink just water alone for a stipulated time period without any additional food or beverage intake, certain benefits happen to your body. This is called water fasting.
So, how long can you be on water fasting?
Many say you can go from 2 to 3 days. Don’t get confused. You can be on a water fast for 24-36 hours maximum. But according to my research and analysis, my opinion is if 24 hours will be the safe limit.
If you have been a practicing fasting for a long time like 4-5 years then you can extend it longer. But if you are new to fasting, 24 hours will be sufficient.
There’s also confusion in the routines. How frequent can water fasting be attempted?
Some say weekly once, some say once in 3 days. Once in 21 days or once in a month is always good.
So water fasting is all about drinking only water for 24 hours without taking in any additional beverages like coffee, tea & juices. Most think that fasting is to avoid solid foods and drink other beverages along with water. But it doesn’t work like that. Because when you are fasting with just water intake, only then the organs in your body, be it insulin response or pancreas response or the glycogen response will be at rest. Even if you drink coffee or tea, it triggers metabolic activity. It’s a stimulant basically.
If you ask me what are the benefits of water fasting? I would say many. Let’s try to understand the important ones.
The first and foremost is there is a process called auto fagging happening inside our body. There are millions of cells in our body and the dysfunctional cells will always get regenerated in our body. Every single minute, a certain number of cells get regenerated. Through water fasting, the auto fagging becomes rapid and more and more new cells will be regenerated. Whether it may be liver or kidney or heart, for all the organs to function properly, they need new cells. Your body always generates new cells and water fasting helps this process.
Secondly, the blood sugar or the glucose level is maintained with the help of water fasting. There are many research findings in the last few years proving this and helps maintain 12-21% in maintaining the blood glucose levels due to water fasting.

The third is inflammation. The food we eat today is packaged food, processed food, high sugar contents, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and more and there is always inflammation in our body. Our body is like an oiled machine. What happens when we do not lubricate our vehicles properly? The same applies to our bodies. Taking this into consideration, inflammation causes different types of cancers even to the organ level.
Additionally, experiencing fatigue at all times, especially when we wake up we feel tired and weak. Some even wake up with headaches. All this is due to inflammation. It causes almost more than 500 symptoms and I am breaking it down simply for you to understand.
Research findings say, if you practice water fasting regularly once every 21 or 30 days for 6 months, you are likely to reduce 30 to 40% of inflammation in your body.
Water fasting has many benefits, but it has to be done right. If you are youngster, you can jump into it right way. If you fall within 45 years of age, then you can start doing it with some basic knowledge about it.
But if you are a sugar patient or have been undertaking medicine for thyroid etc, consult with your doctor who knows your medical history and then go ahead.
When you are doing something good, you should have knowledge about the subject matter and only then it yields the best results without causing any side effects.
I would like to give you some points about water fasting.
Breast feeding mothers should never do it. Pregnant women and children below 16 years of age should not practice it. Above all, we should know certain things about waster fasting. Many of those who do the first time may not have been used to it and all they think about it what to eat when the fasting is over. You should never do it.
Start doing it and take care of it. Your body is the only place that you can live in. Take good care of it.
