Stella Adler and the Actor (1969) [22-minute Rare Clip]
A rare 22-minute excerpt originally from a 1969 program entitled "Stella Adler and the Actor" hosted by Bob Crane.
Adler teaches and discusses the following:
- The actor’s norm
- The importance of individuality
- Overcoming shyness through action/reaching out
- Not withdrawing from life as it’s unnatural and creates a distorted “instrument” for the actor
- Making specific selections for physical characterization and attitude based on impressions of the scene
- The development of the American actor as a national and cultural symbol
Hopefully someday the full hour-long program will be released.

*The first scene is from August Strindberg’s play, The Father, performed by the actor who recently passed away, John Saxon (star of classic films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Enter the Dragon).
**Sincere thanks to Tom Oppenheim from the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City, as well as Eric Colleary from the Harry Ransom Center of the University of Texas at Austin for digitizing this material for the Stella Adler Video Collection Papers.
