How to Build an FM Transmitter From a Clock Radio (back by popular demand)
I posted how to do this in 2003/04, and took it down because it was very long and I had to shoot it myself, which is hard to do if you need both hands free. Hopefully this one goes over better. I first did this as a science project in 1985. It can be done with tube type Fm radios with distances of around 2 to 2.5 miles. Every radio yields different results, but the older and cheaper stuff works best because the components tend to be leaky. This project demonstrates what we call reversibility in nature. For example a speaker can also be a microphone and vise versa. Also there are elements of ganged capacitance, mutual inductance, and resonant tuned circuits. There's actually a lot going on here. The Professor could have done this on Gilligans Island :)
