American Bandstand 1957 & 1968 – Get A Job, The Silhouettes
Airdate: August 17, 1968
Clip Airdate: December 16, 1957
For hardcore fans, note that this is not the “Get A Job” clip from the ubiquitous Dec. 18 “Christmas episode”. Thank goodness they showed this clip from, as Dick mentions, the Dec. 16th episode for this anniversary show in ’68 so we can see it today.
“Get A Job” is still very new in December ‘57 and won’t even hit the charts until next month in January ’58. It will climb to #1 in February.
The Philadelphia dancers in ’57: Frankie Lobis (:16), Carole Scaldeferri (1:42). I think I see Frani Giordano, and Kenni Rossi but I’m not completely sure. What other early Bandstand regulars did you spot?
The Hollywood dancers in ’68: Stan Soburn (0:51), Don Sanuskar & Darlene Walsh (0:53) Rick Bach (1:08), and Frank Vanderpuil & Robin Miller (on the riser at 1:08).
Some of the ’68 kids might be a little out of their element with these older ‘50’s songs played on this episode like this one and “The Stroll”. To be fair, I’d love to see the kids from ’57 try dancing to today’s guest, The American Breed’s “Bend Me, Shape Me” or “People Got To Be Free”, “Hello, I Love You”, “Born To Be Wild”, or “Sunshine of Your Love” – all songs in the Top 10 on Aug. 17, 1968. Lol. Different times.
Thanks for watching everyone!
