‘Not the tip anyone wanted’: RBA expected to raise interest rates on Melbourne Cup Day

The RBA is forecasted to raise interest rates on Melbourne Cup Day, according to Judo Bank economic advisor Warren Hogan.

“Not the tip anyone wanted but today’s numbers I think all but seal it,” he told Sky News Australia.

“The governor’s been quite clear in the last week that they are not going to tolerate any upside surprises on inflation.

“Unfortunately that’s what we got today.

“Yes, inflation is down from the highs of last year but at 5.4 per cent it it’s higher than what they’ve been projecting.”
