Legendary director Martin Scorsese caused quite the social media stir in 2019 with his statements saying Marvel movies aren't “cinema”; or at the very least, are edging out the types of “cinema” he and his fellow directors have valued over the years. I attempt to break down the merits of his argument – along with a few blind spots worth discussing.
