ACL Music Festival!

A montage to show the vibe at the ACL Music Festival 2013, weekend one.

Austin City Limits Music Festival is a multi day institution in Austin. It takes place at Zilker Park, the city's largest downtown park, every October. In the past, it took place over one weekend, but because of growing attendance, this year it has been split to two weekends. There are about 70,000+ people there each day.

There are eight stages, all in relatively close proximity. The Austin skyline looms over the northeast horizon.

Like any established festival, ACL has developed a culture and a dedicated fan base. It is a city festival, filled with people who are from, and who like, Austin. There's not much of a spiritual or self-expressive vibe - For most, it's all about the music.

Several stages focus on Austin bands, which I loved. The bigger stages have national bands on the festival touring circuit, and some legendary bands like the Cure and Queens of the Stone Age.

People reported that the festival seems to have been overrun by corporate interests. The two weekends have basically the same lineup. Weekend wristbands are pushing $300. It feels like a big production.
