Why Parallel LEDs Each Need Their Own Resistors - Simply Put

When you connect LEDs in parallel, you have to give each one its own resistor (unlike for a series arrangement, in which the LEDs can share one resistor). Sometimes it will seem to work with a single resistor, if you're careful, but it's really a bad idea and invites early catastrophic failure of your parts. The reason is the forward voltage drop (caused by the depletion layer of the semiconductor layers) of each LED will vary (even if they are all spec'd to be the same).
