When we first saw Brodhi at the shelter, his body was actively shutting down. He was horrifically emaciated, vomiting, and refusing all food. We knew the only way to save him was to rush him straight to the ER. Now, after emergency surgery to remove a foreign body obstruction, Brodhi is fighting his way back, but we are left holding the cost of the lifesaving care that kept him alive. He needed us, and now we need you.
We named him Brodhi and took him directly to the ER, where our worst fears were confirmed. He was severely dehydrated with major electrolyte abnormalities, and his X-rays revealed a concerning shadow that called for more testing. The team also found that his growth plates had not yet closed, telling us he is still very young, and that his ears still carried stitches from a cruel home cropping. An ultrasound finally revealed the cause of his suffering: a foreign body obstruction that required emergency surgery to survive.

After a night of fluids to stabilize him, Brodhi went in for the surgery he could not live without. We waited on pins and needles, and then came the news we had been praying for. He made it through. He had been living with that foreign body for some time, and it did real damage, but he is young, he is strong, and he is already showing very good signs of recovery.

Brodhi is past the worst of it now and on the mend, but emergency surgery at a specialty hospital came with a very high price tag, and that ER bill is one we took on the moment we chose to save his life. We do not regret it for a second. This gentle, sweet boy who stayed kind through so much pain deserves every chance at the healthy, happy life ahead of him. We just need help covering what it cost to get him there.
