Yamato Battleship Now vs Then WW2

The Steel King of the Pacific from the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵

The battleship Yamato was a masterpiece of the Imperial Japanese Navy in World War II. Weighing over 70,000 tons and armed with massive 460 mm guns, Yamato was the largest battleship ever built by mankind at the time. Nicknamed the King of the Pacific, it was designed to dominate naval battles with unmatched firepower.

However, on April 7, 1945, during Operation Ten-Go, Yamato met a tragic end. The American fleet deployed 11 aircraft carriers, 6 battleships, 11 cruisers, and more than 300 fighter planes and bombers to attack. A relentless rain of torpedoes and bombs from the air crippled the giant until it exploded and sank, taking more than 3,000 of its crew with it.

Though lost, Yamato is still remembered as a symbol of both the glory and the downfall of the Japanese navy in World War II.
