"Israel's put itself in an impossible situation by saying Hamas must be destroyed," Hussein Ibish, Senior Resident Scholar at the Arab Gulf States Institute said, noting the mounting internal pressure on the Israeli government as families of remaining hostages increasingly call for the release of more Palestinian prisoners in exchange for all Israeli hostages. "It's not really an achievable goal unless Israel wants to reoccupy Gaza for a prolonged period of time," Ibish said.
