Dr. Michael Duchowny has been on the forefront of the fight against childhood epilepsy throughout his career, and he is the driving force behind the creation and continued development of the pediatric epilepsy program at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Since its inception in 1982, the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center has treated more than 25,000 children from Miami-Dade, Florida, the United States and around the world, and no child in need of its services has ever been turned away. From the critical contributions he’s made to understanding the role of surgery in treating medically resistant seizures, to the use of implanted electrodes to locate epileptic tissue and map crucial brain function – a breakthrough pioneered at the Center – Dr. Duchowny has definitively changed the way children with epilepsy are diagnosed and treated.

Recognized both nationally and abroad for promoting cutting-edge medical and surgical interventions, Dr. Duchowny’s many honors include visiting professorships at Harvard Medical School, London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto; a NIH National Research Service Award in experimental neurophysiology; and consistently being named to “Florida Super Doctors,” “America’s Top Physicians” and “Best Doctors in America” listings. He is a sought-after researcher and lecturer, has authored more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, edited six books and monographs, and written 50 book chapters. He also serves on the editorial boards of many distinguished academic journals and has overseen the training of fellows who have gone on to assume medical leadership positions worldwide.

With a singular, careerlong devotion to his field, Dr. Duchowny has established an internationally lauded childhood epilepsy program that has immeasurably improved the quality of life for thousands of children and their families across the globe.
