Coronavirus: Ontario, Quebec account for more than 80 per cent of new cases in Canada | FULL

Canada’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Theresa Tam said Monday, during a briefing on Canada’s updated COVID-19 case counts, that new cases in Ontario and Quebec make up more than 80 per cent of new cases nationally. She said the number of cases needing hospitalization and the number of daily reported deaths have increased across the country.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Tam to provide an update Monday on the current COVID-19 situation in the country.

Tam also said she is most concerned about the impact of the second wave on long-term care homes, adding that health officials and health care providers in these settings “need to do a lot better” in protecting these vulnerable populations.

Trudeau spoke about the need to curb the spread of the virus and encouraged Canadians that “there is still time to turn this around for Christmas.” He urged Canadians to continue wearing a mask and social distancing as we work to curb the spread of the virus.
