LUSAKA — A major legal and political storm is unfolding around Brian Mundubile, leader of the Tonse Alliance, following his formal arrest and charge in connection with the alleged corrupt acquisition of public property linked to road construction contracts.

Authorities have accused Mundubile of benefiting from a scheme in which companies associated with him were awarded contracts worth approximately K1.5 billion for infrastructure projects that were allegedly never completed. Investigators contend that despite the disbursement of significant public funds, the works either remain unfinished or were not executed to required standards, raising serious concerns about misuse of state resources.
