0:33 - My YouTube setup
My table is just an Ikea table which I got for free. For the monitor, I’m using a Prism 34” monitor, mainly because it’s one of the cheapest in the market. It costs SGD600.

I use a teleprompter so that I can read the script while filming. It helped to cut down the recording session to just 30 to 40 minutes.Some YouTubers don’t need a teleprompter, instead they have a laptop in front of them, then just read from it. I got my teleprompter from Tabao, which costs about SGD70.

For camera, I’m using my current phone, OnePlus3T to record. If you are just starting out, I suggest to just start with your phone camera because you don’t need a high end camera to create videos.

For lighting, I have a 3 light setup. I got the 2 front light from Taobao, total around SGD80 including the back light..

For voice recording, I got a cheap clip on mic from qoo10 for around $20. You can just search for lapel mic. Get the mic which has 3 lines because it will work well with the phone.

4:35 - Process of making a video
Most days I will wake up at 6am. I’ll start by removing scam comments, reply emails and answer as many comments as possible. Then I’ll start planning my videos. I won’t run out of ideas because I get ideas from comments or forums like Seedly and Reddit.

I script using Google Doc because I can continue scripting while travelling around. Scripting typically takes about 3-6 hours. When I’m done, I’ll film then start editing in Premiere Pro. Editing takes around 3-4 hours. I am using Envato Elements for stock photos, music and so on.

Once I’m done editing, I need to plan thumbnails, write descriptions and think of a good title.

7:29 - Tips on becoming a YouTuber
1. Don’t make videos because of money. It usually takes a few months for your channel to start monetizing, if you are just doing YouTube for the money, you will give up quickly. Instead, make videos because you like making videos.

2. Personality. According to Peter McKinnon, the reason people watch a video is because they want to see that specific person talk about the topic. If you want people to watch your videos, you need to show your personality. The more genuine you are, the better.
