Marshall and the Korean War, 1950-1951
Dr. Allan Millett discusses how Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall led a coalition of civilian and military defense officials that supported the State Department and President Truman’s determination to limit the Korean War. Their common goal was to establish a firm national commitment to strategic nuclear deterrence and forward collective defense. They succeeded despite the opposition of a group of isolationist and “Asia First” members of Congress.
