During these strange times we are living in right now, I find myself in a new place that I had just moved to temporarily for a TV freelance job that ended up going dark after four days. I am grateful that I am with my husband, who works in the medical field as a traveler, and our sweet golden retriever as COVID-19 sweeps across the world.

As I sit in our new apartment, in a place I’m unfamiliar with, I find myself turning towards unfinished projects. Back in the fall of 2013, I went to a Korean Adoptee Event in D.C. with my husband, fiancée at the time, to film interviews. There were a few stories I did not put together, because I ended up taking a break from creating films about foster care and adoption for a couple of years, starting at the end of 2015. All of it was becoming too emotional for me and I needed to step away for some time. Also, all of my personal funds that I was using towards this passion project of mine had been depleted.

I always knew I would start creating these films again and was inspired again to do so in 2018.

Digging back into the past, I put together Debbi’s Korean Adoption Story. Debbi’s narrative, along with all adoptee stories, no matter when they tell it, at what stage in the journey they are in, stand the test of time.
