“I had breast cancer surgery once, during the first (cancer) and now nothing, there is no other operation (available), the metastasis is in my bones and now it is only treatment (that's available). When the treatment stops working, which is usually after six months, they change my treatment, and now I am on carboplatin (chemotherapy drug) and waiting for some tests to find out if it works or not.”

“Mood, habits, nutrition, other omics, such as the microbiome, proteomics, plasma metabolomics, etc. So, there are many other factors other than tumour genes that also influence patient outcome. And we want to tackle all these data streams, bundle them up, merge them, and be able out of all these data streams be able to truly predict and manage patient course."

18. SOUNDBITE (English) Miguel Quintela, oncologist and director of the Clinical Research Programme at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO):
“With a real patient, you cannot make tests, you just put a treatment and then you expect the outcome. So, if this patient digital model is accurate enough, you can simulate millions of disease trajectories resulting from modifying one patient factor or another, right. So that you are able to get, at the end of the day, a number of treatment decisions, individualized for that patient that would improve patient outcome.”

“When they integrate all this information, interesting data will surely emerge. I don't know if they will be able to be applied immediately or in the medium-term in our patients, but probably, by refining all this information and with a little more research, it will probably be possible to develop, I don't say new drugs, but perhaps different ways of administering the drugs we already know in oncology."
