Temperatures trend up this weekend & early next week

Little to no rain is expected across Texas over the next five to seven days. An isolated afternoon downpour may occur in parts of the Coastal Plains and Southeast Texas, but that's it. We'll be hard-pressed to squeeze out cloud cover for the remainder of July.

High temperatures will trend up one to two degrees beginning today and continue into Sunday and Monday. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will feature triple-digit high temperatures across much of Texas, including the eastern third of Texas, where higher humidity values typically keep the air temperatures slightly lower. Overnight low temperatures will also be trending up a bit this weekend into early next week.

The threat of wildfires will remain very high given the developing 'flash drought', hot afternoons, dropping humidity, and rapidly increasing energy-release component values. That's all to say that grasses and trees are quickly becoming stressed and tend to burn much more easily and rapidly than a few weeks ago.

Precipitation is unlikely for the next five days, at least. There is a low chance of a pattern shift around August 3rd (in about a week). If that shift occurs, we may see slightly less hot temperatures and perhaps at least some chance for isolated afternoon storms. No tropical mischief is expected in the foreseeable future for Texas or the Gulf Coast.
