The 10 Worst Hotel Trends in 2022

The hotel industry is always evolving, but in 2022 I see some common hotel practices that will make your hotel stays less enjoyable and cost more this year. From cuts to housekeeping, to increased fees, there are plenty of negative trends here. But it’s not all bad! I’ll also share five of my favorite trends to look forward to in hotels this year.

1. No Daily Housekeeping
2. No breakfast buffet
3. No Valet
4. Paying for a Resort Fee but not getting all the stuff
5. Less in-room amenities
6. Check-in at a machine
7. Rainheads in showers
Half-wall showers
Wall Less bathrooms
Bathrooms with windows
8. Less elite perks and continued loyalty program devaluation
9. Night club lighting
10. Smart room controllers – tablets that control everything. They rarely work.

And some positive ones:
1. WFH – Work from Hotel
2. Instagrammability
3. Using your cell phone as your room key
4. More Pet-Friendly hotels
5. Focus on wellness
