Things you need to know before updating to Engine DJ 2.01, and how to recover if disaster strikes.
I hope you find this video before (attempting) to update to Engine DJ 2.01, because it contains some very important information.
The most important tip:
𝐁𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐮𝐩𝐬!
The recovery I show should work on both macOS and Windows, the download link to the Python script used for the recovery is at the end of this comment.
00:39 I recommend the Engine DJ 2.0 update, but not without a warning
01:11 Migration on my SC6000M from Engine Prime 1 to Denon DJ 2.0
01:32 Engine DJ 2.0 is NOT back worth compatible with Engine Prime or engineOS 1.x
02:22 My personal over 100K tracks collection did not migrate to Engine DJ 2.0, the collection size seems to be the determining factor here
02:51 The first time I’ll mention to have backups before you migrate!
03:10 My collection as seen through Engine Prime 1.6
03:37 Which files you need to backup for successful recovery if disaster strikes
04:54 The migration produces an error
05:20 The failed migration to Denon DJ 2 also affects the Engine Prime 1 collection, that was perfectly working before the migration
06:00 Copying the p.db from the back up to the Engine Library folder restores cues, loop etc in Engine Prime 1.6.
06:36 Back to where I begun, a perfectly working collection in EP 1.6
Requirement for the recovery to be possible:
06:52 Your Engine Prime 1.6 collection must be fully functioning with cues, loops etc
07:07 Quit EP and rename the m.db and p.db into m1.db and p1.db
07:24 The tracks must be part of Engine DJ 2.0 and analyzed by Engine DJ
07:35 I use the Denon Conversion Utility to convert the iTunes xml to Engine DJ 2.0
07:50 Non DeCU users can manually drag & drop the tracks in Engine DJ 2.0, you will miss your crates/playlists.
08:07 I’ve got my playlists back in Denon DJ 2.0 but no cues/loops/grids yet
08:50 Editing the Python script so it will migrate cues, loops and grid from EP 1 to Engine DJ 2.0
09:34 Run the Python script in order to execute
10:00 Error on purpose, rename m1.db and p1.db back to m.db and p.db
10:30 things to consider, have backups in case of questions reach out to me during my weekly AMA for DJs
In this tutorial I use a Python script to restore the cues, loops and grids from Engine Prime 1 to Denon DJ 2.0. This script is free and can be downloaded here:
