Optimisation is one of the most important steps for Native Advertising campaigns. Wether you're running on Taboola, Outbrain, MGID or any other exchange it doesn't matter, the process is the same.

You don't necessarily need to look for what is working, although that is important you specifically need to look for what doesn't work. Once you exclude what doesn't work then you can easily scale on what is working, ultimately what is generating you your profits.
