Finland: Putin arrives in Helsinki for summit with Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived at Helsinki airport on Monday to meet with US President Donald Trump in a historic summit hosted by Finnish President Sauli Niinistoe.

The Russian president left the airport in his brand new Cortege limousine, accompanied by dozens of other vehicles.

Developed for the Russian president by NAMI (the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engines Institute), the armoured Cortege [Kortezh] limousine is equipped with a 6.6-litre V12 engine which develops 830bhp and 1320Nm of torque.

The bilateral talks between the two leaders at the president’s castle in Helsinki were due to start at 10:00 GMT.

Both leaders are expected to discuss a range of international issues and bilateral relations, in particular, the alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US elections, Syria, Ukraine, NATO and US economic sanctions.

This is the third meeting between Putin and Trump; earlier leaders met in July 2017 on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg and in November they had a small chat at the APEC summit in Da Nang, Vietnam.
