The Ratline with Philippe Sands
A UCL Laws Community webinar for alumni, staff and students, with Philippe Sands QC and Professor Piet Eeckhout (Dean of UCL Laws) talking about The Ratline.
Professor Sands is Professor of Law at UCL, and a practising barrister at Matrix Chambers. Professor Sands frequently appears before international courts, and has been involved in many of the most important cases of recent years, including Pinochet, Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Iraq, Guantanamo, Chagos and the Rohingya in Myanmar.
The Ratline follows from Professor Sands’ successful BBC Radio 4 podcast of the same name, released in September 2018. The book is based on a family archive of letters, diaries and other materials, that allowed Sands and fellow researchers at UCL to trace the relationship between Otto and Charlotte over the course of twenty tumultuous years (1929 to 1949). The book is dedicated to the late UCL Professor Lisa Jardine, with whom Sands worked on the archival material.
