Adversity has hit the Browns with a deafening thud.

With a 37-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in cool, gusty conditions at FirstEnergy Stadium, the Browns for the first time dropped back-to-back games in the same season under Kevin Stefanski, whom they hired as head coach in January 2020.

The Browns (3-3) are now 8-3 at home under Stefanski, including 2-1 this season.

The Cardinals (6-0) had won each of their first three road games this season by at least 12 points, and they remained the NFL's only undefeated team after a trip to Cleveland's lakefront.

The Browns have lost their past five games against the Cardinals and haven't prevailed in the series since Nov. 16, 2003, when they won 44-6 in Cleveland.

Running back Kareem Hunt wasn't as fortunate. He avoided putting weight on his right leg while medical personnel helped him to the sideline after he was hurt with 12:06 left in the fourth quarter. After being examined in the medical tent, Hunt was carted from the sideline to the locker room with 10:52 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Browns announced he suffered a calf injury and wouldn't return to the game.

With 6:26 left in the third quarter, Mayfield hurt the same shoulder in which he suffered a partially torn labrum Sept. 19 against the Houston Texans. He didn't miss a snap, though.

Mayfield was hurt when defensive end J.J. Watt strip-sacked him as he scrambled with 6:26 left in the third quarter. Linebacker Devon Kennard recovered the fumble at the Arizona 46.

The Cardinals scored off the takeaway and went ahead 30-14 with 2:56 left in the third quarter. On second-and-goal, quarterback Kyler Murray capped an eight-play, 54-yard scoring drive by throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was left wide open in the back of the end zone.

With 9:24 left in the second quarter, Beckham caught a 17-yard pass from Mayfield and suffered a right shoulder injury as he was tackled by cornerback Marco Wilson. But Beckham re-entered the action with 9:55 left in the third quarter and was serenaded by “OBJ” chants after he caught a 24-yard pass from Mayfield on the receiver's second play back.

There were no chants after Beckham failed to secure a pass from Mayfield on fourth-and-4 from the Arizona 7 with 12:06 left in the fourth quarter.

After the turnover on downs, the Cardinals produced an 11-play, 93-yard drive with Murray sealing their victory by throwing a 14-yard touchdown pass to receiver A.J. Green with 4:48 left to play.

Rookie linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah also left late in the game and walked to the locker room with a right ankle injury.
