The Mighty 4ft. Level

A 4' level will not do everything for you, but it will certainly do a LOT. It's the most versatile level, and the one I use the most often.

I wish the Bostitch level was still on the market. I have used it for many years, Nate has used it for many years, and it has proven to be an excellent and extremely high quality tool. I believe it cost around $50 or so. I can recommend that level fully and without reservation. I have the 4' and 8' models. Here are a few from Amazon that look decent. (these are affiliate links)

I had bad luck with my Stabila level and probably won't buy another one. That being said they have a great reputation and many people love them.
