Channel 4 - Fourscore

Channel 4 UK's Fourscore Theme by Lord David Dundas.

When the channel had just launched on 2nd of November 1982 at exactly 4:40PM GMT+00, Paul Coia had intoned the following sentence, "Good afternoon. It's a pleasure to be able to say to you: Welcome to Channel Four".

Following this was a montage of that Channel 4 had to offer at the time. This song played during this montage and following this was Channel 4's first programme, Countdown at 4:45PM GMT+00, the tea-time slot. Countdown is still Channel 4 and Yorkshire Television's longest running show and is still aired today.

Every time this song played during the idents, Lord David Dundas received £3.50, which totalled approximately £1000 per week. As it cost Channel 4 a lot of money, it was no longer used by 1992, ten years after the channel had launched. At the time, the sequence of four notes was the shortest musical piece to be copyrighted.
