For years, Peter Voogd was the frustrated 20-something at the back of the room, listening to successful people speak and envying the characteristics he saw in the speaker. "I'd catch myself thinking there's no way I could do anything he does. He's a different breed. He's born different," Voogd says. That's when he realized the detrimental comparisons had to stop.

"Comparison is the ultimate mystery," Voogd says.
