Recently met some friends to fish the world Famous San Juan River near Farmington New Mexico. This is a big river with many big fish. The San Juan in mainly fished by wading but does have some boat access but it is limited in the section we fished today. We are using size 26 midges 6x tippet with a small split shot or 2. the flows were low just about 680 CFS and the water was clear and cold. It was just about the perfect day to fish . This section of the river is called the quality water and you can expect to catch many fish averaging 18 inches and up to 26 inches of you are lucky. I've caught Browns, Rainbows and Cut-bows. there are so many fish in this water that sometimes you feel them bump your feet, as they are searching for a free meal from the bugs tour feet stir up. This is where the term San Juan shuffle came from.
