Advice to firefighter rookies: Get thick skin

It's hard work to become a firefighter in Atlanta. Recruits go through 11 to 12 months of training that includes EMS and EMT training, followed by 16 weeks of fire training. A recruit only gets two chances to pass the EMT test before all the hard work is lost and they are kicked out of the academy. And once a recruit finally graduates and becomes a firefighter rookie -- that's when the true hands-on learning begins. Here, experienced firefighters let rookies know what they should expect when the real world hits at the fire station.
