CILVIL RIGHTS VICTORY - Grave in the middle of the road in Hearne, Texas

Did you know that somewhere in Texas lies a 111 year old grave in the middle of a residential road? This grave belongs to Hollie Tatnell who was born a slave and died a free woman. Her grave lies in a residential area in Hearne, Texas, and this neighborhood use to be Hearne’s colored cemetery. The cemetery closed a year after Hollie passed. In 1949, developers forced out the graves so they could build houses in the area. Due to the cemetery being closed they relocated the bodies to be buried elsewhere, but one family refused to move their mother. Now, Mrs. Hollie Tatnell’s grave lies where it always was, just now with a different surrounding view. Join me as I visit and pay my respects at Hollie Tatnell's gravesite.
