Indian-American Kamala Harris close to US Vice Presidency: Her brief history

Kamala Harris made history when Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden picked her as his vice-presidential running mate. Harris is the first American of Indian and Asian descent to run for vice-president. Harris' mother was Indian while her father is Jamaican. Her parents separated when she and her younger sister were very young. Harris became the US Senate's second Black woman member ever. She grew up in Oakland and earned an undergraduate degree from Howard University followed by a law degree from the University of California, Hastings. Harris emerged as a fierce advocate for police reform and social justice in the Senate. The 55-year-old has also served as district attorney in San Francisco. She was sworn in as a United States Senator from California in 2017. Watch the video for more.
