Bezymyanny volcano eruption began on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. The eruption is reported to be accompanied by a powerful ash plume that rose to a height of 16 km (10 mi). The eruption was given the highest color hazard code for aviation, red. In total, over the past day, 8 eruptive episodes occurred on the volcano with emissions of gas and ash to a height of 6 to 16 km (3.7 to 10 miles). According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the ash plume is moving towards the Gulf of Kamchatka.
