The Ottomans and The Fall of Constantinople

The ottoman empire emerged in the late 13th century in north western Anatolia

They were one of many Turkic principalities that were formed in the region in the wake of the Mongol invasions

So by the middle of the 15th century the ottomans had defeated and incorporated most of the Muslim Turkic emirates into their empire
They had also crossed into Europe and subdued the orthodox Christian Slavic states of the Balkans
These being Bulgaria Bosnia and Serbia
In 1453 Sultan Mehmed II conquered Constantinople the capital of the thousand year of Eastern Roman Empire
Mehmed II’s conquest was of the utmost historical significance
