Nagorno-Karabakh: Russian peacekeepers escort displaced people from Armenia to Stepanakert

Russian peacekeepers escorted a convoy of buses and personal vehicles with displaced people from Armenia to Stepanakert on Friday.
"23 buses and 250 private cars proceeded from Yerevan to the main square of the city of Stepanakert, accompanied by patrols of the peacekeeping contingent and the military police of the Russian Federation," the Russian Defence Ministry said in a statement.
Over 1,900 people returned to their homes on Friday, according to the ministry. Since November 14, more than 6,000 people who had previously left their homes have returned to Stepanakert, the ministry added.
Following weeks of hostilities, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed an agreement to end fighting over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region on November 9.
Under the terms of the deal, 1,960 Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the disputed region to monitor the ceasefire.
The agreement also sees Azerbaijan maintaining control of the territory taken in the most recent fighting, with Armenia set to relinquish control of further areas held since the 1990s.
